Why look at Google from another place?
Google doesn’t show everyone the same results. It takes into account where the searcher is, down to the city, and the language their Google is set to. A search for “plumber” in Lyon and in Marseille returns different pages, and the same is true for many searches that seem to have nothing to do with place.
If your customers are somewhere else, what you see from your desk is not what they see. This tool lets you open Google’s results as they are shown in the place you choose.
How this tool works
You type a search, and choose any of three things: a place, a country and a language. The tool builds a link to Google with those choices written into it, and you open it in your own browser. Google answers you directly; we don’t request or copy its results, and nothing about them passes through our server.
The link carries up to three instructions for Google. The country tells it which country the searcher is in. The language sets the language of Google’s own interface, which also sways the results. The place is the most precise: it gives Google a point on the map, and Google answers as if the searcher stood there.
A place can be typed as a name, such as “Lyon” or “10 Downing Street, London”, or as coordinates, such as “45.764, 4.8357”. A name is turned into coordinates by Nominatim, the search service of OpenStreetMap, and the report shows what it found, so that you can check it is the right Lyon.
The report also gives a second link, a search for “where am I”. Google answers that one with the location it is using, which is the quickest way to confirm the place was accepted.
What this tool can’t promise
The way a point on the map is passed to Google isn’t documented by Google. It is the method SEO tools have relied on for years, but Google can change or ignore it at any time. Always check the location Google reports, at the bottom of the results page or with the “where am I” link.
The results are still shown to you, in your browser. If you are signed in to Google, your account and history can colour them; the link asks Google not to personalise, which it honours only in part. For the cleanest view, open the link in a private window. The device is yours too: to see the mobile results, open the link on a phone or switch your browser’s developer tools to a phone.
This is a way to look, not a rank tracker. It doesn’t record positions or follow them over time. For how your own pages perform in Google, by country and device, the Performance report in Google Search Console is the reliable source.
